Emmy Varner

Emmy Varner

Emmy Varner is the AmeriCorps member serving here this year. She is from Lancaster County in south central Pennsylvania and recently graduated with her bachelor's degree in public history. When she is not working on a variety of projects for TCHS, she is serving at historical sites in Ashtabula, Geauga, Mahoning, Portage, and Trumbull county.

Kate Pfouts

Kate Pfouts, Archivist, started as the Martha Ellers intern in July of 2023. After completing the internship, she joined the staff at TCHS, working primarily in collections and research. Hailing from Columbiana, she received her B.A. in Anthropology from YSU and holds certificates in Collections Care and Management from the Center for Collections Care at Beloit College. She is currently pursuing her master's in Archival Studies from Clayton State University.

Kattie Bortmas

Kattie Bortmas is Digital Media and Marketing Coordinator with a background in photography and film. She holds an Associate of Science in Film and Video Production from Full Sail University and brings experience supporting small businesses through strategic marketing and visual storytelling. She is proud to be part of the founding team building the Museum of Science Fiction & Fantasy Arts in Warren, Ohio.

Meghan Reed

Meghan Reed

Meghan Reed is the Executive Director of the Trumbull County Historical Society in Warren, Ohio, where she leads fundraising and strategic planning and oversees culture heritage programming. She holds a Master’s degree in Public History from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is dedicated to developing museums as dynamic community assets. Following TCHS's acquisition of more than 500 iconic props from Modern Props, the renowned Hollywood prop house founded by Warren native John Zabrucky, Reed is part of a team leading the creation of the Museum of Science Fiction & Fantasy Arts in Warren. This institution will be the first in the United States dedicated exclusively to these genres. Beyond her work in museum leadership, Reed is actively engaged in community development. She serves on the boards of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley and the W.D. Packard Foundation, which contributes to capital improvements at Packard Music Hall and Packard Park. Originally from Pittsburgh, Reed is now a proud resident of Warren, Ohio.

Ryan MacLennan

Ryan MacLennan

Ryan MacLennan is the Director of Operations and Outreach at the Trumbull County Historical Society (TCHS). He earned his Master of Arts in History from New Mexico State University. After beginning a PhD in Art History in Gainesville, Florida, he returned to northeast Ohio following the birth of his first child. At TCHS, Ryan oversees public programming, community engagement, events, and facility management. He has supported the Museum of Science Fiction & Fantasy Arts since its inception and serves on the museum’s steering committee. In addition to his professional work, Ryan serves as Board President of the Center Brook Historical Society, is a Board Member of the Braceville Community Foundation, serves on the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) Small Museum Committee, and is a member of the Someplace Safe Dinner and Desserts Committee. In his spare time, he enjoys watching science fiction and fantasy content and cooking with his friends and family.

Savannah Moss

Savannah Moss

Savannah Moss, Collections & Research Manager, joined TCHS in September of 2023 and currently serves as the Collections & Research Manager. Originally from Zanesville, she has always been an avid lover of history and museums. She received her B.A. in Anthropology with a minor in Art History from Cleveland State University in 2019. Her focus was particularly on prehistoric archaeological activity in the Mediterranean region up until the Bronze Age. She interned as an archives assistant at the Susquehanna Art Museum, the Cleveland State University Art Galleries, and the American Saddlebred Museum. She completed her Master’s in Museum Studies from the University of Oklahoma in 2024. She currently serves on the programming committee of the Society of American Archivists, is the treasurer of the Mecca Historical Society, and is a regional representative for the Ohio Local History Alliance.

Tim Boyer

Tim Boyer

Tim Boyer is a retired technology professional and active volunteer with the Trumbull County Historical Society. He was Chief Technical Officer and Plant Engineer at Denman Tire until the Warren plant closed in 2010, overseeing technical systems and plant infrastructure. A Unix and Linux systems administrator since 1996, Tim spent decades solving complex operational problems before retiring in 2022. He now focuses on local history, nonprofit work, and helping organizations turn ideas into workable realities. Tim is an avid science fiction reader and a regular at Modern Methods Brewing, where good conversations and community tend to overlap.
